Olivier Rousteing has been officially appointed as the new creative director of Rabanne. Puig, the company that owns the brand, stated that this is “a significant new chapter in the evolution of Rabanne”. The former creative director of Balmain, who departed from his role in November 2025 after 14 years of service, will unveil his inaugural collection for Rabanne during Paris Fashion Week in March, as part of the Autumn/Winter 2027/2028 season.
“Joining Rabanne is an immense honor. It is a Maison that has consistently challenged conventions, transforming audacious ideas into creations that have etched their place in fashion history. Its spirit of innovation, craftsmanship, and fearless creativity have inspired generations, and today, they inspire me,” stated Olivier Rousteing.

The surprise announcement of his appointment occurred on July 14. In the official portrait, Olivier Rousteing holds Rabanne’s iconic silver metallic chainmail, with a notebook and pen laid out before him on a table.
Rousteing’s aesthetic during his tenure at Balmain was renowned for its bold silhouettes, intricate embellishments, and penchant for dramatic details—qualities that align perfectly with Rabanne’s DNA, characterized by its legendary metal dresses.

The designer is currently 40 years old and possesses 15 years of experience as a creative director. When Olivier Rousteing took the helm at Balmain in 2011, he became the youngest designer, without founder status, to lead a major Parisian fashion house since the appointment of Yves Saint Laurent at Dior.
During his tenure at Balmain, Rousteing cultivated the “Balmain Army” phenomenon—an influential community of models, celebrities, and influencers, including members of the Kardashian family. In an era where celebrities have become primary drivers of the fashion industry, the designer brings not only his creative energy to Rabanne but also the immense power of social media. His Instagram boasts 9.4 million followers, while Rabanne has approximately 1.9 million.

The appointment follows Olivier Rousteing’s high-profile return last May when he designed a custom gown for Beyoncé for the Met Gala. The ensemble featured a nude base with crystal “skeleton” embroidery that extended to the fingertips.
According to Rabanne representatives, under Olivier Rousteing’s direction, the brand will continue to expand its ecosystem, developing new product categories and fostering a constant dialogue between fashion, beauty, and innovation.
