Легендарна сумка Balenciaga з 2000-х років знову в тренді – тепер представлена в кутюрному виконанні

Certain handbags transcend their function to become true icons of their time. The Balenciaga City Bag is one such example – a creation by Nicolas Ghesquière from the early 2000s, which nearly remained in the brand’s archives but, thanks to Kate Moss, evolved into one of the most recognizable fashion hits of the decade. Now, this legendary bag is once again in the spotlight: Pierpaolo Piccioli has presented its new couture interpretation, proving that true style icons never lose their relevance.

Over the years, this iconic model has been reinterpreted many times, reflecting the creative vision of Balenciaga’s successive creative directors. For the Autumn/Winter 2020/2021 season, Demna introduced the Neo Classic – a contemporary take on the beloved bag. He experimented with proportions, crafting exaggeratedly large and miniature versions, stiffening the silhouette, releasing the model in bold monochrome colors, adorning it with graffiti, and using intentionally distressed leather. Despite all these transformations, the City Bag has consistently retained its distinctive identity.

Following Pierpaolo Piccioli’s appointment as Balenciaga’s creative director, it was almost a given that the City Bag would become a cornerstone accessory in his debut collection. At the Spring/Summer 2026 show, the designer unveiled several new variations of the model: in chocolate suede, black and beige leather, and a striking fuchsia hue. The clean lines underscored Piccioli’s aim to restore the bag’s elegance without sacrificing its inherent character.

The biggest surprise awaited brand enthusiasts during Pierpaolo Piccioli’s inaugural haute couture show for Autumn/Winter 2026/2027. It was there that the designer presented a completely new interpretation of the iconic bag. Only two models appeared on the runway, yet they became some of the collection’s most standout accessories.

One version was crafted entirely from silver metal, while the other was encrusted with a pink crystal mesh, creating the effect of a precious jewel. These pieces complemented Piccioli’s architectural ensembles: a milky-white T-shirt dress and an elegant crepe, silk, and wool coat paired with trousers embellished with organza petals.
